The simple present is a verb tense. There are a total of 12 verb tenses in English. The simple present is one of the twelve verb tenses in English. The simple present is one of the essential verb tenses in English. There are 5 essential verb tenses in English.
All verbs fit into one of these 3 categories:
TO BE category
MODAL category
ALL THE OTHER GUYS category
The TO BE category contains only one verb. That verb is "to be".
The MODAL category contains only can, could, will, would, may, might, must, should, shall
The ALL THE OTHER GUYS category contains all the other verbs in English.
We will look at the TO BE category and the ALL THE OTHER GUYS category in the simple present verb tense.
This is the pattern used to GIVE INFORMATION for both the TO BE category and the ALL THE OTHER GUYS category.
Subject + Verb + Blah blah blah
We use the simple present to talk about routines and characteristics.
When we give information about routine it is best to include a frequency adverb (always, almost always, usually/generally/normally, often, sometimes, almost never, never) and a time phrase (in the morning, on the weekends, during the week, at night, etc.)
We use "to be" in the simple present to talk about identity, location, and state of being.

(affirmative) Limon is a very funny dog. (characteristic)
(negative) He is not a well trained dog. (characteristic)
ALL THE OTHER GUYS category
(affirmative) Rocio and Limon normally walk in the neighborhood every morning. (routine)
(negative) Limon doesn't always eat his food every day. (routine)
