Part 1

Use the microphne button in Skype. Please make a recording of your voice reading this.

Successful Chef Part 1

Chicago has some of the best chefs in the United States. Sharon was one of those chefs. Sharon was the head chef at "Flash", a very expensive restaurant.

Like many people, she liked to shop, wash her car, and sip lemonade in the shade, but unlike many people, she was an accomplished chef. She had been a chef for over 15 years. Growing up, she loved to cook. She experimented with different combinations of ingredients to see how they would taste.

Part 2

Please watch this video. What do you agree with? What do you disagree with? Please give your reasons.

Part 3

Please write 3 sentences. Your sentences can be in any tense approriate for your question or for your statement. In each sentence use one of the words or word combinations from the translated scriptures that you are studying. Part 1

A 52 second recording was posted on Skype. Here is my feedback.

First listening

The ending of some words are imprecise.

For words that end in hard consonant sounds such as /d/ and /t/, it is important tha the last sound of tose wordds is as audible as the first cound of those words.

Continue to be clear and firm with /sh/ and /s/ sounds.

I did not understand what you read.

Second listening

Flash

I will make a recording now of myself reading the text. You may use the audio to listen and repeat. I will leave blank space after each sentence.

Part 2

Corrected Version

I agree that a child learns naturally whether he or she is a boy or a girl, a "he" or a "she".

I disagree with the parents; statement that they should give the child time to understand the meaning of the gender and to understand what gender they are.

If the parents follow blindly what an immature child says, the child will become confused. As a child grows and matures, the child may not like his or her name or may not like the clothing he or she is given to wear. Fore example a girl might now like wearing boy clothing, and a boy may not like having a girl's name. Parents should be very clear about what they teach to their children. Parents can't change the truth.

When I was a child, my parents did not tell me that I was a girl or a boy. I knew I was a girl from my name, my clothing, and my upbringing. And later on, I knew I was a girl from my behavior , from my voice, from appearance, and from my knowledge of my physical growth.

Additional Feedback

The question was: . What do you agree with? What do you disagree with? Please give your reasons.

To answer this question, it is best to be direct. For example: I agree that blah blah balh. The reason I agree is blup blup blup. I disagree with rah rah rah. The reason(s) I agree are reh reh reh.

You begin with "It's a controversial statement." What is a controversial statement?

You use the term "a child's natural statement", but what is a child's natural statement?

When you use terms that are unknown to your audience, you should define the terms immediately after using them.

For example" It's a child's natural statement." What I mean by "a child's ntural statement| is zah zah zah.

Be careful with the use of pronuns such as "they". parents - they, And, children = they. It is better not to substitute the acutal noun with a pronoun if there my be confusion as to what noun the pronoun represents.

Part 3

Corrected Version

In all 3 cases the meaning of the target vocabulary is the same in the source sentence and the sentence that you wrote.

TUESDAY FEBRUARY 6, 2024

Part 1

Spend 5 minutes listening to the 1 mimnute 27 second audio that I put on Skype at 1:35PM Tuesday Feruary 5. After each sentence there is a long pause. Imitate my pace, my intonation and my pronunciation. After you hear me as I read each sentence on the audio, you should read the same sentence. Imitate my pronunciation, intonation. Of course you may look at the text while you listen to me read. And you may look at the text while you repeat after me during the pauses. You do not need to send me a recording. You may create a recording for your own use of course, so that you can hear my voice then your voice on the same recording. Your goal is to imitate my pronuncation and intonation as closely as possible.

Altough English has 5 letters called vowels: a, e, i, o, u, English has perhaps a dozen vowel sounds. Imitate me. Don't let your eyes fool you. The spelling of English words are not helpful when working on how to pronounce words. First learn how to say the word. Then accept the spelling. In my humble opinion, trying to make sense of the spelling does not help anyone pronounce the words correctly.
