FEEDBACK

The infinitives are:

(1) to hear (oir)

(2) to listen to (escuchar)

Think of (2) as to pay attention.

Think of (1) an automatic response to sound, an automatic function of your ears.

2 - Make sure you hear carefully. (incorrect)

Make sure to pay attention carefully.

= Make sure to listen carefully.

= Make sure to listen to the music carefully.

- Make sure to listen to the judge carefully.

3 - I've been listening a lot of reggae recently. (incorrect)

I've been listening to a lot of reggae recently.

7 - Sorry, can you repeat that, I wasn't hearing what you said? (incorrect)

|Sorry. |Can you repeat that? I wasn't paying attention to what you said.

Sorry. Can you repeat that? I wasn't listening to what you said.

Sorry. Can you repeat that? I couldn't hear what you said.

Sorry. Can you repeat that? I didn't hear what you said.

hear is about the mechanical function of the ear

listen to is about your mental process

If you do not hear something it means that your ear is unable to detect the sound.

If you do not listen to something, it means that you do not pay attention to something that is entering your ears, you don't notice it, you don't pay attention to it.

TUESDAY MARCH 26, 2024

This chart https://www.athabascau.ca/write-site/esl-eal-resources/concise-esl-support/conditional-hypothetical-constructions.html let's you see the zero conditional, first conditional, second conditional and third conditional. You might want to copy the chart into your physical notebook.

Third Conditional

This conditional is used about the past. both the if clause and the result clause are about the past. We cannot change the past, so that's wy the third conditional is sometimes described as an "unreal" or "impossible" past.

If I had grown up in France, I would have learned English as a foreign language.

or

I would have learned English as a foreign lanugage if I had grown up in France.

Please watch this video Shipping and Ferry companies are banning Electric Vehicles from their ships because of fires https://odysee.com/@Qwinten:b/Shipping-and-Ferry-companies-are-banning-Electric-Vehicles-from-their-ships-because-of-fires%F0%9F%94%A5:1 What is your reaction to this video?

FRIDAY MARCH 29, 2024

Many people eat 5 or 6 or more times a day! They eat breakfast. They have a mid-morning snack. The eat lunch. Then they eat a mid-afternoon snack or afternoon snack.. After that they eat dinner. And after dinner, before bedtime they have another snack. Some people even get up in the middle of the night for a late-night snack. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are "meals". What we eat between meals, before meals, and after meals are called "snacks.

Please make an audio recording of the above paragraph.

THURSDAY MARCH 21, 2024

Please translate these sentences from Spanish to English .

  1. El inglés se habla en todo el mundo

  2. En invierno nieva en los Pirineos (Pirynnes)

The Second Conditional:This is used to talk about a very unlikely future event. The reason that the future event is very unlikely is because the speaker believes that the condition is unlikely.

Notice that using the second conditional depends 100% on the mindset, on the point of view, of the speaker.

The pattern:

If + SUBJECT 1 + past simple, SUBJECT 2 would + V

V = the infinitive minus the word “to”

So the "IF CLAUSE" : If + SUBJECT 1 + past simple,

and the "RESULT CLAUSE": SUBJECT 2 would + V

SUBJECT 1 and SUBJECT 2 can be the same the same subject or they can be two different subjects.

If I did a bad job, Rene would get angry.

If I did bad work, Rene would get angry.

Example:

If I lived with my family, I would have greater peace of mind.

You did a great job, Sheila. your ear is getting better and better. The corrections I made were in the punctuation and some spelling, I also added a few words to make my original sentences clearer.

I think school uniforms are a good idea.

When I was a child, until twelve or thirteen I wore a school uniform.

I think school uniforms are a good idea because the social differences, economic differences, between children are not so obvious when everyone is wearing the same outfit.

Nowadays it's an even better idea. Nowadays it's an even better idea because the social differences, economic differences between families, are even greater than before,

Some people think, and maybe it's true, uniforms are a bad idea because uniforms are expensive for poor families, The money spent for uniforms could be used for something else. So for poor families a school uniform might be expensive, so maybe for this reason uniforms are a bad idea.

Please review our Monday February 5 lesson in the Skype. chat area.

WEDNESDAY JANUARY 10, 2024

1, 2, and 3 have not been corrected by Nia, yet.

WRITTEN ACTIVITY

corrected

1. Why did you decide to rent your current apartment?

Before my current apartment I lived in a small apartment, In the winter the apartment was very cold and in the summer the apartment was very hot. My kitchen was too small for someone like me who likes cooking.

After the pandemic, in the summer of 2021, I decided to look for a new apartment. When I saw my current apartment, I fell in love !!😍 or When I saw my current apartment, it was love at first sight !!

2. Please explain what your current apartment has that your previous apartment didn't have.

My current apartament has air conditioning and heating throughout the apartment. The apartment is bigger than my last apartment, 30 meters squared bigger! The apartment comes with a parking space. Plus there is a pool, I didn’t look for an apartment with poolm but it is fantastic to have it!

It’s in a good neigborhood. It is in a better neigborhood than my previous aparment.

And my current apartment is more beautiful than the last one!! I was very happy in my previous apartmentm but I’m happier in my current apartment!! And my plants are happier, too!!

And when I rented the current apartment, the diference in price was only 40€. or The difference in price between them was only 40€.

3. What are some of the features that you look for when you consider renting or buying a home for yourself?

The first thing I look for is the price. I want to be sure that I can pay the rent without any problems. I want to rent easily within my budget.

I also look for a good neighborhood, a neighborhood where I will not feel afraid coming back home alone..

I like a bright apartment, with a good kitchen and amenities like air conditioning or heating.

I need a parking place. It’s essential for me!

I also look for an aparment that is close to public transportation. I might need to use public transortation on some ocassion when I don't have a car. I might need to get around by bus or train. or When I don’t have a car, I need to get around by bus or train.

My current apartment has all my requirements and more!

LISTENING ACTIVITY

1. Listen to this and try to guess which apartment this couple wants to see. https://youtu.be/ScZ48qN_ZWA?si=KCG88pxMP0B05_fL

CORRECTED VERSION

Yes, I think I understand which apartment this couple wants to see quite well. (or I know which apartment this couple wants to see,.) The couple doesn't like the first first aspartment beacuse it doesn't have a parking space, They don''t like the second apartment because the closet is too small. The fourth flat has a large living room, and they don't need a large living room..

NOTE: You misunderstood the task. I should have written the task in another way:

Listen to this. Which apartment did this couple want to see?

LISTENING ACTIVITY 2

Follow along with the written text as you listen to the video.

Now listen to the video again, but this time with your eyes closed.

Did you understand a lot more than the first time?

The text was difficult to understand. The, second time I listened to the video was clearer. I understood more words.

I learned new words today with this activity:

onto

mapping

Instead

subtle

flaws

———————-

And I learned two new words at next excercise:

disfigured

surgery

Use your imagination! How can this technology be used in a useful way? You may use your voice or write your response.

CORRECTED VERSION

Maybe this technology can be used in plastic surgery, or maybe this technology is used now in plastic surgery.! Maybe this technology can be used with people that have disfigured faces because of an accident.
