Remote work
439 words submitted January 2, 2024
Dear Nia. Please see my completed homework for today TUESDAY January 30, 2024.
Essay TASK 2.
Information technology enables many people to do their work outside their workplace (e.g. at home, when travelling, etc.).
Do the benefits of this mobility outweigh the disadvantages?
Nowadays, due to the development of breakthrough technology, working remotely is becoming increasingly popular around the world. For many people, especially for young adults the possibility to do their work outside is an attractive one. However, there are both pros and cons to taking the work online instead of doing this offline at the office. In this essay, some of the reasons why the remote work is such a fast-growing trend and some of the challenges to be overcome will be discussed.
Let`s begin by looking at the advantages of this mobility at work. One of the main positives of working remotely is that the employee is not tied to a specific place, city or even country. He is flexible in his movements and decisions, there are no obstacles to applying the job abroad. For illustration, personally I`m a good example of a person who consistently work online and enjoy this format. I can work from home or go to the coffee shop accomplishing my tasks from there. When you are online it is more likely to manage the duration of your working day and do not overwork, mitigating the risks of getting burned out quickly. In addition, people working online are not made to waste plenty of time to get the office. This saved time they can invest into their personal development by taking some courses or trainings or just spending this time with family.
Turning to the other side of the argument, the efficiency of work performance is affected. Many people who take their work outside the office face the challenges with self-discipline, concentration, and responsibility. Nothing unexpected is here, because the more you get used to comfortable and flexible conditions of working from anywhere, the more unfocused you become. Especially working at home causes lots of circumstances when you can get distracted by family, random phone call or the annoying noise of the repair work of the neighbours. Secondly, there is the risk to lose the relations with a team, as everyone is literally isolated from each other and the longer it lasts the less you feel the need to socialize at all. For instance, psychotherapists claim that people who have the lack of social communication are more prone to frequent depression and stress.
All things considered, in most cases working remotely is optional, there is a choice to stay stick to the office or migrate to online. It`s necessary to weight up the upsides of the workplace mobility and the downsides of being distracted all the time and becoming unsocial person. Personally, I believe that the benefits of working outside the office outweigh any negatives.

Your job was to give your opinion, that is, answer the question "Do the benefits outweigh the disadvantages?" The last sentence of the last paragraph gave your opinion. But you did not state why you held that belief. Below is a correction of the English only. I am looking at each sentence individually, not the composition as a whole.
CORRECTED VERSION
Nowadays, due to the development of breakthrough technology, working remotely is becoming increasingly popular around the world. For many people, especially for young adults, the possibility to work outside of the company facility is an attractive one. However, there are both pros and cons to taking work online instead of keeping this work at the office. 'This is weird. Most people who work in company offices work online.] In this essay, some of the reasons why remote work is such a fast-growing trend and some of the challenges to be overcome will be discussed. [This is your thesis sentence, but it does not answer the question of the prompt. Your entire essay is more or less an introduction to the answer to the question. ]
Let`s begin by looking at the advantages of this mobility at work. [what mobility a work? This term definitely needs a definition! Without an explanation of what "mobility at work" is nonsensical.] One of the main positives of working remotely is that the employee is not tied to a specific place, city or even country. He is flexible in his movements and decisions. There are no obstacles to executing the job abroad. By way of illustration, personally I`m a good example of a person who consistently works online and enjoys this arramgement. I can work from home or go to a coffee shop and accomplish my tasks from there. When you work online you are more likely to manage the duration of your workday and not overwork, mitigating the risks of getting burned out quickly. In addition, people working online are not made to waste plenty of time to get to the office. They can invest this saved time in their personal development by taking some courses or trainings or just spending this time with family.
Turning to the other side of the argument (what argument?), the efficiency of work performance is affected. [affected by what?] Many people who take their work outside the office face the challenges of self-discipline, concentration, and responsibility. Nothing unexpected is here because the more you get used to comfortable and flexible conditions of working from anywhere, the more unfocused you become. Working at home especially causes lots of distracting circumstances. You can get distracted by family, random phone calls or the annoying noise of the repair work of the neighbors. Secondly, there is the risk of losing the personal interaction with a team, as everyone is literally isolated from each other and the longer it lasts the less you feel the need to socialize at all. For instance, psychotherapists claim that people who don't communicate socially are prone to frequent depression and stress.
All things considered, in most cases working remotely is optional. There is a choice to stay in the office or migrate online. It`s necessary to weigh the upsides of the workplace mobility and the downsides of being distracted all the time and becoming an unsocial person. Personally, I believe that the benefits of working outside the office outweigh any negatives.

Pollution
428 words submitted January 31, 2024
There is no objection that the whole world is affected by consequences of environmental pollution. So far, people can notice only minor changes associated with the deterioration of natural environment, while the global problems are approaching a critical level with each new day. Humanity must unite and put a lot of effort to prevent an inevitable global disaster. Therefore, I`m of the opinion that there is strong necessity to indicate the main causes of environmental pollution and define the measures should be taken by authorities.
One of the biggest causes of poisoning cases of the environment is fast-growing industrialization. Accompanied by technological development, many problems, such as over-exploitation of natural resources, intense use of artificial fertilizers, reliance on automobiles and deforestation, have arisen and intensified. As result, the emission of harmful and poisonous gases into the atmosphere, an increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide in the air and eventually global warming on the planet. Global warming has a negative effect on climatic changes, which is dangerous due to such anomalous natural phenomena as drought, floods, fires, etc. All of these changes affect people health and life.
Another global problem is a plenty of garbage. Now many countries implement the recycling mechanism into the consumption chain as a consistent lifestyle. However, tons of garbage are thrown in the ocean and the entire islands of garbage drift in the seas. It pollutes the sea water as well as still water. Lots of marine animals die, what also leads to contamination. Moreover, many chemical processes occur that lead to the spread of epidemics of viruses and various serious diseases. Even if the waste disposal is carried out, there are still harmful emissions entering the air.
Tackling the problem of global environmental pollution requires the commitment of both the society and the authority. The government can establish the system a control system for the amount of emissions of harmful gases into the air, obliging all industries to install filters and other cleaning mechanisms, creating conditions for the use of alternative energy sources, demanding the recycling of all household and industrial waste. At the same time every resident also can contribute into these improvements by adhering to conscious and rational consumption, sorting garbage and taking care of nature.
As things considered, from my point of view there are two biggest reasons why many countries are experiencing serious problems with the pollution of environment. So, we suggested several actions which should be applied to resolve it. The government should play an active role and take a number of measures to save our environment.
Here I, Nia, have yet to correct the the English of the first 250 words

TASK 2. Essay
Some people believe that social media sites, such as Facebook or Twitter, have a negative impact on young people and their ability to form personal relationships. Others believe that these sites bring people together in a beneficial way.
Nowadays, most of young people belong to the global social network. There is no singe day when they didn`t check the account in Twitter or Facebook leaving the like or comment under someone`s post or scrolling reels. It`s not entirely bad or entirely good to be addicted to virtual life, but any type of addiction sooner or later has devastating effect. Some people consider social media like a great opportunity to express yourself in a different and independent way, while in the real life there is not enough space to do it. Others believe that it negatively affects youth attitude and their lifestyle offline. Both sides of this argument will be analyzed before a reasonable conclusion is drawn.
On the one hand, there are two key reasons which support the statement that social media, namely Facebook and Twitter, harm the proper social development of young people and keep them away from healthy offline relationship. Firstly, sitting online every time leads to social isolation, such people experience the difficulties with making friends. You avoid going out somewhere to spend the time with real people, because you forgot how to treat people in the real life. Secondly, everyone has to remember that the virtual environment has a negative impact on your mental health. Especially it`s about teenagers who are still growing up and therefore are extremely vulnerable. They are easily influenced and persuaded by other people, what can be dangerous. For example, a couple years ago in Facebook there was a viral video shared about the group of young people called the White Whale, who imposed the idea of committing suicide. Unfortunately, many young people were affected by following the fatal ideas of The White Whale. Therefore, adults have to keep social networking of their child under control.
On the other hand, there are those who hold a different opinion on this claiming that social media is a great tool for cross-cultural engagement. People can connect with other users from all over the world for various purposes from making new acquaintances to establishing business cooperations or finding like-minded people to popularize some ideas. There can be many uses of this networking both for personal and corporate purposes, but each of them broadens your horizons and gives you the opportunity to meet people from different cultural backgrounds. The more you learn new, the better it is for your personal development.
In summary, there are different points of views about the impact Facebook and Twitter has on young people's lives. The dependence on social networks depends on many factors present in the life of a young person. In order to prevent any adverse events, there should always be a conscious and rational approach to using the Internet in general. People don’t have to forget that the virtual world is just a good believable fake.

Homelessness is increasing in many major cities around the world. What do you think are the main causes of this problem and what measures could be taken to solve it?
Nowadays, more and more homeless people can be met on the streets of big cities around the world. They are forced to settle outdoor with inadequate and unsafe living conditions due to various reasons which governments can challenge and overcome. This essay will present an overall view of these causes and potential solutions.
The main reason of growing number of homeless people is high level of unemployment in urban areas. People from the countryside move to the big cities looking for better opportunities to find a well-paid job. As result there is a lack of workplaces what leads to the situation where housing becomes unaffordable for many individuals. Secondly, rising property prices also make it difficult to pay for accommodation or even more own this. All these reasons are related to the level of economic development, the worse the economy, the higher the prices and the fewer job places.
Tackling homelessness issues in many major cities requires the commitment of authorities on both local and governmental levels. The government should improve the regulation policy for rental prices and property prices. Moreover, there is one more measure should be taken, such as extension of housing facilities. This will drive the price down and housing more affordable for most people, for whom it was previously impossible. In case these solutions are not helpful, special shelters can be equipped for people living outdoor to provide them with temporary accommodation.
To conclude, there are multiple solutions that can be applied to deal with homelessness. All that is needed is to draw the attention of the authorities to this problem to make them act. The state should support its citizens, give them the opportunity to change their lives.

The bar chart illustrates the percentage distribution of youth favouring a certain type of transport like car, motorcycle or bicycle in different countries.
Overall, car is the most popular type of transport among young people in all given countries., except for Germany. Despite this, in Germany the share of youth who prefer bicycle over motorcycle is the highest comparing to the USA and other European countries. Motorcycle is the least demanding in all countries, except for the USA.
The percentage of young people, who choose a car instead of other types of transport, reached the peak of more than 70% in France. Young people in the USA and Great Britain express their car preference equally at almost two thirds of total share.
The percentage of young people loyal to motorcycle is two times higher than in European countries taking 30% of transports` share. In Great Britain and France the preferences to this type of transport are exactly the same at 10%.
Germany is undisputed leader among other countries, because there young people drive bicycles the most, reaching the highest percentage at over 40%. Second place in popularity of bicycles goes to Great Britain with share at 30% what slightly exceeds this number in the USA as well as in France with 10% and around 15% of percentage accordingly.Dear Nia, please find the report for THURSDAY January 18 below.

My Answer
COMMENT: Theproblem here was not using the plural form of car, motorcycle and bicycle. Also the point of the seconf paragraph was extremely unclear. Te other parapgrphs had a lot of unnatural complexity. In generl start from the general and et more specific . I will look at this again when I have more time. Or better yet, we can do this together, not in tandem during our lesson tomrow.
The bar chart illustrates the percentage distribution of youth, in Great Britain, the USA, Germany and France, favoring cars, motorcycles or bicycles as a means of transportation.
THE SECOND PARAGRAPH IS CONFUSING. DO YOU SEE OVERALL TRENDS?
Overall, cars are the most popular type of transportation among young people in three of the four countries. Germany is the exception. On the other hand, Germany, when compared to the three of countries, has the largest share of youth who prefer bicycles over both cars and motorcycles.
CARS
The percentage of young people, who like to get around in cars, instead of other types of transportation, reached the highest proportion in France at just over 70%. Young people in the USA and Great Britain express their preference for car transportation equally at 60% of the total number surveyed in each of those two countries respectively.
This construction is simpler and easier to understand. Also this is more of a general overview, by country with regard to cars:
Cars as a means of transportation are most popular in France at X % and the least popular in Germany at Y%. In Great Britain and the USA the popularity of cars for getting around is equal at Z%
MOTORCYCLES
This is simpler:
Great Britain and France are tied at a low of 10% popularity of motorcycles. Germany is almost as low at 15%. And the USA, at 30%, indicates that motorcycles are preferred at least twice as much when compared to any one of the other 3 countries.
The percentage of young people loyal to motorcycles is two times higher than in European countries taking 30% of transports` share. In Great Britain and France the preferences to this type of transport is exactly the same at 10%.
BICYCLES
Germany is undisputed leader among other countries, because there young people drive bicycles the most, reaching the highest percentage at over 40%. Second place in popularity of bicycles goes to Great Britain with share at 30% what slightly exceeds this number in the USA as well as in France with 10% and around 15% of percentage accordingly.

We are preparing for the IELTS Academic exam. The exam has 4 parts: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, in that order. The listening part, like the reading section has a total of 4 questions.
Part 1
Read this list of 10 tips. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvXSJAQXjro Copy the list of 10. Then for each one, use your own words to describe how you will implement the tip.
Part 2
The paper has four parts, with ten questions in each part. The questions are in the same order as the information in the recording, so the answer to the first question will be before the answer to the second question, and so on.
Parts 1 and 2 deal with everyday, social situations. There is a conversation between two speakers in Part 1 (for example, a conversation about travel arrangements). Only one person speaks in Part 2 (for example, a speech about local facilities).
Parts 3 and 4 deal with educational and training situations. In Part 3 there is a conversation between two main speakers (for example, two university students in discussion, perhaps guided by a tutor). In Part 4 only one person speaks on an academic subject.
You will hear the recordings once only. Different accents, including British, Australian, New Zealand and North American, are used.
You will need to transfer your answers to an answer sheet. You will have 10 minutes at the end of the test to do this. You should be careful when writing your answers on the answer sheet because you will lose marks for incorrect spelling and grammar.

and FRIDAY JANUARY 5, 2024
PART 1--IELTS
We are preparing for the IELTS Academic exam. The exam has 4 parts: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, in that order. The listening part, like the reading section has a total of 4 questions.
Read this list of 10 tips. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvXSJAQXjro Copy the list of 10. Then for each one, use your own words to describe how you will implement the tip.
The "paper" has four parts, with ten questions in each part.
PART 2
Please watch this for tips on taking the Listening Section of the IELTS Academic exam. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhgxUk9gWxI This is NOT a native speaker of English and it might take you a few seconds to get used to her accent.

What was one thing that you really enjoyed doing in December?
PART 4

A present participle is PART of a verb.

future continuous
present perfect continuous
past perfect continuous
future perfect continuous
When you mentioned that you were having some doubts/difficulties/confusion about "gerunds" did you mean that you were not sure when to use -ing verb forms? For example:
I enjoy singing. (correct)
I enjoy to sing. (incorrect)
PART 5
Verb patterns that involve two verbs, side by side.
